East Nepean is using the honour of hosting the 2020 Ontario Major Championship to bring awareness to its Challenger baseball program.
For the last 21 years East Nepean’s Challenger Baseball Program has provided kids and young adults in Ottawa with physical and developmental challenges with the opportunity to make friends, be active in the outdoors, be part of a team and best of all, learn and play the great game of baseball.
The Challenger program provides parents and families an opportunity to experience youth-in-sport as their child plays in a full baseball league over the summer months.
All funds raised for this legacy project will be directed towards completion of upgrades to the field to meet Ontario Accessibility Standards by 2020.
Upgrades will improve player safety along with improvements to accessibility to player dugouts and the field for players and coaches who use assistive mobility devices (e.g. wheelchairs, walkers) as well those needing to access the field ( e.g. parents, first responders).
During the 2020 Major Ontario Little League Championship, time permitting, a Challenger baseball game will be hosted during the tournament week. More details to come on this event.
